In February 2024, a rare and wonderful opportunity arose for a creative visit to the Hempel family – yes, the Hempel family, who are popularly referred to as "...under the sofa". Driven by the ambitious desire to finally prove to the world that their home is not only respectable but also remarkably tidy, the family made a courageous decision: to launch their own marketing campaign.
To this noble end, they invited me to take a look behind the scenes of their everyday life as part of an exclusive photo shoot. The Hempels granted me generous access to their private rooms in order to present their curious fan community with moments that are otherwise reserved for celebrities – completely unposed, spontaneous and absolutely authentic, of course. Just as it should be when there is nothing to add to the truth.
The resulting, strictly limited photographs of this little safari through the wonderful world of the Hempel family have been carefully compiled for the first time in this photo book. Now they can finally see the light of day and convince all those who have so far wanted to cling to the alleged quirks, untidiness or other endearing idiosyncrasies of the Hempels.
As you will easily see, this is a completely normal family, free of any clichés – or at least determined to leave exactly that impression.
