The black-and-white photos compiled in this illustrated book were taken during a "home shoot" at MARRY's flat near Stuttgart in June 2021. The location was her small flat in an apartment building. Only the existing light coming through the windows was used for lighting. Furthermore, none of these photos have been retouched in the sense of fundamentally improving flaws or imperfections.
With "Next Steps," I am pursuing the idea of creating images that are less staged and more immediate and intimate. The familiar pin-up and Playboy poses, which we know in countless variations, were deliberately not to be part of the project. Instead, the photographs should convey the impression that one is witnessing a spontaneous, private, almost everyday moment. Ideally, it should not be apparent that these scenes are actually staged. The focus is on the women – their personality, their charisma, their essence – embedded in an erotic atmosphere.
