BOOK: The Darker Side
The Darker Side
This illustrated book is a compilation of black-and-white photos taken between 2015 and early 2020. All of these images were taken on the sidelines of "normal" shoots, essentially by chance, in the style of making-of, snapshots, break and test shoots. None of these photos have been retouched to improve or eliminate flaws and imperfections. They originate from colour digital photos that have been converted to black and white and developed with the look of analogue black and white film.
The idea behind this concept is to try to create less staged, more honest photos. The aim is to avoid the stereotypical pin-up and Playboy poses that we have seen far too often. In this respect, these photos are not staged, but at best even reflect a little of the relationship between photographer and model that developed temporarily during the shoots. This is quite a challenge, because it should not be forgotten that in most cases the model and photographer do not know each other at all and only meet once for a few hours for a shoot. In addition, for all models, these shoots are largely a purely commercial affair and there is basically little interest in revealing anything about themselves.
